Hello to you! Sending a thread, hoping to create a space so that you can share what you are making this summer? I recently made a suede t-shirt with little cutouts all over it and I am obsessed. Hoping to try and make a tank top soon! Please share what you have made or would like to!
I started sewing a dress and I got really discouraged by it, so I took some time away! I really want to revisit it. I think i need to bring up the shoulders (if that makes sense) and then re-do the sleeves. I'm still a new sewer and used a Cashmerette pattern. I'm finding I'm pretty short from the shoulders to my waist, so I will have to learn how to address that in patterns!
This weekend I sewed myself clothes for the first time since a sewing class I took when I was like 10!
I made some pajama pants by (very roughly) tracing some pj pants i already had. the fit turned out terrible but it was all really just to build confidence on the sewing machine. I'm working my way up so I can make myself shirts (i have simplicity 9279) and my wife really wants a romper. Next up maybe some shorts or something!!
This past Monday I flipped a old dress into my birthday outfit. I separated the dress in two to make a cropped tank top and a skirt. I cut the skirt into strips but knots in all the strips to make the skirt a cool layering piece! I struggled a little with the sewing machine but overall I’m happy with how it turned out.
I am hoping to get started on a pink plaid a-line jumper soon, to be Enid to my co-worker's Wednesday for a Halloween teen event at work. I got lucky with some flannel fabric on sale at JoAnn.
I've been sewing bucket hats lately. Made them for myself and my siblings, but a friend asked for some matching mommy and baby hats and I loved making them. Really enjoy sewing clothes for myself and others, hoping to sew more shorts and skirts for summer. Also want to start sewing more bags, I've done tote bags and coin purses but want to branch out!
I am hopefully soon finishing a patchwork top, that I am making out of old jeans. The back works kinda like a corset and at the moment it looks likely to be cropped (:
I just finished a gingham wrap skirt, and am about to start a slip dress. I am working on a circle skirt with my sewing teacher, too (just started learning to sew in February and it's been so much fun!).
Last week I finished putting some buttons on a button-down shirt I made, and wrapped up a dress that I was puttering around with -- both self drafted and done in a relatively improvised way! I learned so much (gathering, button holes, POCKETS) and still percolating on what I want to tackle next
This weekend I made a quilt in 72 hours! 🫠 My first quilt for a dear friend who is having her first baby. I always grew up with the older ladies giving new moms quilts, and wish this was more common! I made a 45x45 floor quilt for her baby to lay on using pink, grey, and white fabric. I used the cotton daisy pattern from Laugh yourself to stitches and it turned out great 🥹 the extra fabric will be made into bias tape for future projects!
Last week I made my first ever pair of pants! I used the Arthur pants pattern from Sew Liberated (with a few adjustments) and the fabric is a super dreamy cotton double gauze in black with subtle rainbow stripes. They are so cozy and will absolutely be a new staple in my closet.
I’ve done cosplay sewing for years and always struggled with store-bought patterns, so I’m really excited to work with more accessible patterns and actually make clothes I can wear everyday.
I am an artist, 65, I started making silk prints, now I want to see them into clothing, like Pucci. I have never used a sewing machine and was looking for some one that could help me. As an artist it feels like I need to at least try to see what I can do myself. Your posts are encouraging.
I have a pattern for a 1910s wrap cape that I want to get cracking on so it's ready in time for winter. I've already picked out a navy wool for the outside and a pink sating for the lining!
I have just decided to dive in and make a whole bunch of 'reckless abandon' clothes for a camping music festival at the beginning of next month. I've been waffling at getting back into sewing clothes because of the audhd perfectionist in me.
THESE clothes I can make with just a mind for something that is going to be breathable and cool in the heat, and interesting to look at, without worrying if it's perfect or if this seam meets that exactly. I won't be looking at it thinking "ugh everyone will know this is homemade." Instead I get to give a feral raccoon grin and it's more "ooooh _everyone_ is going to know this is homemade."
I’m working on a long, floaty, short sleeved summer shirt. The fabric is a brown plaid yarn-dyed cotton. The pattern is hacked from a Japanese pattern book dress that I made last winter. As always, I thought I could finish it in one weekend but after too much sewing on Sunday I started to get frustrated and had to put it down for a break. The problem is that the collar stand is too short. I’m not sure if it’s because the shirt fabric stretched (I need to remember to stay stitch even if it’s not explicitly spelled out in the pattern!) or because of fit adjustments that I made the first time I made the pattern but didn’t make a note of. I know I’ll be able to sort it out when I have time. If there’s one thing that sewing has taught me, it’s patience and problem solving. :)
Currently not sewing anything, but plotting my next move!! I’m losing weight so I’m putting off new clothes until I’m more stable. But considering some jeans alterations to support me while I’m still changing size. After that, I want to learn a collared camp shirt next!
I'm working on a quilt UFO: I started making some half square triangles with some cheater print fabric, and decided to tackle it again yesterday. I'm making HSTs of different sizes and playing with layouts, it's been very fun!
I made 2 pairs pj pants this weekend because I too am a baby sewist. I’m pretty happy with how both pairs came out and am thinking of making my sister a pair since we are roughly the same size. 😁

Sewing definitely teaches patience

I love that! Denim is so fun to work with

Yay! Sounds like fun projects!

That is so cool!

That is how I started when I was making quilts, couldn't get enough!!

I *always* think it will take me less time to sew things, but those small parts take so long.
Currently not sewing anything, but plotting my next move!! I’m losing weight so I’m putting off new clothes until I’m more stable. But considering some jeans alterations to support me while I’m still changing size. After that, I want to learn a collared camp shirt next!
Yay! I love a camp shirt!
This week I made my son a 4th of July outfit my first time making clothes! I made him a tank and shorts! It was adorable!
That sounds adorable!

I need to make pajama pants that is such a good idea!
