Hello everybody! You all have absolutely blown me away with your enthusiasm for Garbie. I am so excited to build this community with you!
Please introduce yourself! As of this writing, we are closing in on ONE THOUSAND of you!
Also, I wanted to let you know that the newsletter is going to drop this Friday! We are talking all things Body Blocks and Sweater Vests. I am taking inspiration from The Nanny herself and will be recreating several Fran Fine looks.
I'm Carolyn. I've done a lot of alterations on my existing clothes to make them comfortable and functional. My body has changed a lot in the last 4-5 years so I'm interested in altering thrifted clothes or making clothes that make me feel like myself. I want to make my wardrobe more flexible/adjustable so it can accommodate body changes in the future. I'm hoping this group will give me a gentle but firm push to do some of the hard things of actually choosing a pattern and doing the thing.
Hi everyone!! I'm Faye and I got my sewing machine probably two years ago but I'm still a major beginner. I've only made one pair of shorts but I'm excited to get back into it and learn more!
Hey all, I'm Glynis. I actually work in costumes and am not new to sewing, but there's always new things to learn. Plus I'm always here for anything supporting inclusive sustainable fashion.
Hey there! My name is Chloe. I have been reworking clothes for a while but im wanting to get back in to making clothes from scratch and I would love to learn more about how to take patterns and such and make them something that fits better!
Hi all! I'm Patricia and am the stereotypical neurodivergent person who is totally going to learn to sew this year (for the last...oh...10 years running).
Hey hey! I’m Katie, I’m pretty new to sewing but love to thrift and alter clothes, and have recently gotten into visible mending! I’m trying to move toward more long term sustainable fashion, so I’m really interested in learning how to make my own clothes and make new things from the clothes I already have.
hi! i'm Dita, and I've been sewing since i was a teenager. Only just starting to make my own clothes - I've mostly done historical costuming. Excited to be a part of this community!
Hello all! I'm Nicole, very new to sewing especially with a machine. I've gone to one class and I hoard vintage sewing books. I'm excited to attempt to sew my own clothing for the first time.
My name is Jasmine and although I don’t know how to sew yet, I did study fashion business in college in the 90s and I have had many fashion industry jobs including managing Betsey Johnson boutiques, personal styling, apparel company general manager and fashion school admissions director. My strengths are fashion history, vocabulary, textiles and I am good at knowing what will fit me or others well. I do have ADHD and sometimes I struggle with focus which is part of the reason I abandoned sewing when I was 14. I want to give it another try because I have so many ideas swirling in my brain.
Hi! I’m Britt. I’ve been sewing sporadically since I was a kid, mostly self taught (does middle school home ec count? Lol). I’m looking to start altering/re-designing my own clothes and be able to confidently shop second hand with that in mind.
Hiya, I’m Anna. I have only touched my sewing machine I’ve owned for 2 years once. So, safe to say, that should change. I’d love to learn how to make my own clothes because it’s difficult to find things that fit me right. And I hope that will give me another outlet for self expression 💕🤞🏻
Hey there! I'm Giulia. I'm 100% new to sewing but, I'm learning more about my own style, and I've been finding really hard to find nice clothes that fit me well, so, creating my own clothes would be the dream.
I decided to take matters in my own hands last week and became obsessed with sewing content hahaha Soon after the glorious Tiktok algorithm showed me your announcement for Garbie and here am I, fully invested!
Hi! I'm Cara. I really want to learn to sew and I've been trying to get started. Figuring how to follow a pattern while being bigger than the patterns has been discouraging and confusing. I'm excited to learn!
Hi! I'm Abby, new to sewing and working on my first piece - a linen t-shirt which last night I discovered the neck hole is too small for my head! Trying to laugh through the seam ripping
Hi yall! Im Sheana and im dusting off my sewing machine from school (2009) and ready to start making clothes i like and that fit my body. Super excited!!!!

Hiiiii I'm Afton (she/her) (also I'm a Frost too!), queer single mom and burlesque-er who is teaching herself how to sew by making her own costumes :)
Frosts unite! That is so neat! Glad you are here :)

It is the best feeling to take an idea in your brain and translate it into a garment, glad you are here!

I love having a few sewing tricks up my sleeve for exactly this reason. It allows you to shop a wider variety of items.

Hopefully you get our sewjo back! I'll be on the lookout for it :)
