We have lots of new faces that have subscribed to the newsletter recently and I thought it would be fun to introduce ourselves! What are you making? What excites you about learning to sew?
I have lots of plans for Garbie in the coming months and I can’t wait to share them. Also, if you have any requests for content or instruction please leave that in the thread as well.
Hi everyone! My name is Tanner and I am the guy behind Garbie. I love making and sewing and recently I have been thinking about using Pom Poms and other trims and lace in my projects. I even made a denim shirt with Pom Poms on it and it is now one of my favorite items.
I live in Portland, OR with my husband and our two dogs and I am so happy to make sewing content on the internet. Thanks for being here!
Hi Tanner/everyone! I used to sew when I was a teenager, but haven't done anything more than the occasional mending/alterations as an adult. I need a new, tactile creative outlet and I'd really like to start making clothes!
I live in Savannah, Georgia with my husband, dog, and cat. I work remotely as a writer and I'm an avid reader. Looking forward to meeting/getting to know y'all <3
Hi everyone! I grew up sewing with my awesome grandmother. And most of my adult experience is in quilts and stuffed animals for my niblings. My current projects include a very slow and long term quilt project, and some fun clothing projects so I feel like Im actually accomplishing things haha. I just completed a shacket for my spouse and am getting started on an asymmetrical dress for myself this weekend!
Hello! Great to digitally meet everyone. I am very, very new to sewing and have only done a few projects here and there since I was a teenager but hope to learn new skills this year and beyond! Like Maddie, I hope to add a new creative outlet to my life as well.
I am in awe of textile artists and hobbyists and can’t wait to learn more from Tanner and you all. When I was in school I loved learning about the work of Cecile Dachary, Louise Bourgeois and others that did work with textiles.
I am out in Seattle, WA and work as an architectural designer. I finished grad school recently and have a lot more time to find new hobbies!
Looking forward to meeting you all and learning from you!
Hi Tanner/Everyone! My name is Danyelle and I'm just getting into sewing clothes. I'm very lucky to have a mother who made her own prom dress and dresses for myself and my sister when we were young. My preferred method is Upcycling. Currently I'm working on repurposing 2x of my dad's overalls (he doesn't know and will never know mom gave me these shhhh!) Into 2x different styled dresses, a peplum belt, a patchwork skirt, and a blazer with a lace cape. Been experimenting with synthetic dyeing too! Excited to see what everyone else creates!!!
Hi, I’m Paula. I mostly knit & crochet. As far as sewing, I got burnt out making masks during early days of the pandemic. The only thing I’ve sewn since was a maid’s apron for a murder mystery party. I’d love to get back into sewing and tailoring. I just acquired the antique Singer that my grandmother taught me on (just needs a belt) and a White sewing machine from the 70’s that just needs a tune up.
Hi all! My name is Demi and I have been sewing for about a year now but have found Tanner's zines and tutorials SO helpful in the process.
I live in Scottsdale, Arizona where I am a graphic designer professionally. Sewing and now writing my own newsletter on the creative process has been the outlet I've needed and I'm so excited to meet other like minded people!
My name is Cardie and I really like to sew. It’s no rush. Im making a lined vest now with some fine weight dense wool and a patterned block print lining. I want lots of teeny buttons down the front.
Hey everyone! Dusty here from Texas. I picked up cross stitching and embroidery over Covid and fell in love. I've always wanted to sew and have decided to finally start a couple of months ago. I found Tanner and loved his creativity and the idea of circular fashion. I just wish I had more time to work on projects but I'm loving playing and learning and creating.
Hiya! I’m Leah, I live in Corvallis, Oregon, and, though I used to play on my mom’s and step-grandma’s sewing machines as a kid, I never really -learned- to sew. ADHD and a life full of distractions makes it hard to self-teach, but Garbie and all of Tanner’s content has both inspired me to dive back in, and reassured me that I absolutely -can- do something cool with it!

Upcycling overalls sounds exciting! Keep us posted 🙂
Will do! Went to Goodwill today and found a few more Upcycling opportunities 😁

Burnouts are ruff!! Here's to a bright tomorrow! ❤️

Thanks for starting this up, Tanner. I like to sew and to refashion and am excited to see what others create.
