Thank you! 🤣 been looking at my (boxed) machine for over a year! This post got me maybe 25% less scared to open it!

and yet not all of us to whom this article pertains are “girls”. just a little sprinkle of patriarchy sneaking into your writing.

some of us are nonbinary and having a penis doesn’t preclude you from sewing.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, check your penis at the door. Penises (patriarchy) have never allowed anyone to ignore them even though they are the minority. Men monopolized all monetary ways of sewing, marginalizing women to the household/unpaid/underpaid labor. Most women have no problem with 'girl' when it's used among equals. So you could choose to be seen as equal with women.

My husband bought me a sewing machine after I made enthusiastic statements about making my own clothes. It sat gathering dust for months. Then I signed up for a beginners sewing class and I’m LOVING it! Glad I made the effort to start - it was what I needed to feel motivated and excited about this new endeavor! Thanks for being passionate about sewing and sharing that with us🫶🤍✨🦋💕

Definitely right about sewing being self-care: I feel worse for putting it off because it's promises I've made to myself based on my values and I keep breaking them. Kind of hard to also do sewing projects for others if I don't allow myself to express my creativity and gain more confidence to begin my more ambitious projects. Just gotta remember it doesn't have to get done all at once and I would actually want it to be that way! More time to enjoy it and feel accomplished by each opportunity to learn.

Procrastination and an avoidance of getting the machine out is something that I face, even though I’ve been sewing for decades. But it really is true that once you just start to use it to sew something, anything—it’s a wonderful feeling of creativity and accomplishment.
