This is so informative!! Thank you for the handy reference guide. If I can suggest one more place to buy fabric online (especially quilting cottons!): Lamb and Loom fabric. Very nice website and so many beautiful designs.

The House of Mami Wata has an amazing assortment of African wax prints (so vibrant and fun) by the yard. Most are cotton but some are polyester so be sure to check which you're buying! If you live in a city with a reasonable African population you can probably also find (a smaller selection of) these prints locally in six-yard units. Note that the texture softens up a TON once you wash the wax out. They're really lovely mid weight cottons!

Reclaim It in PDX has second hand fabric for $4/yard! Most of it is cotton as well.

This is fabulous! Could you also talk about upholstery fabric? I just reupholstered a couch with fabric I bought online. It's been 30 years since I took a class on it and I had to search all over to remember what double rubs were and what I should look for!

In Boulder CO, I just discovered they have Art Parts https://www.artpartsboulder.org/ which resells fabric that's donated (fabric, thread, yarn, etc!).

This is great! Especially since I’m a blue dot in S. Texas. Honestly one of about 10 blue dots in one town. 1 1/2 hours away from the now defunct Joann’s. Several fabric places in San Antonio which I will attempt to add to the list. 😊

I’d be curious if you have any recommendations for traditional homespun or hemp mix fabrics?

Thank you for including fabric mart. They have a swatch club and send out a flyer with 20-30 swatches every month. I love that store!!!

I am so happy to see Fiddlehead on this list! they’re local to me and walking through their fabric section is a dream as a wannabe sewist. I recently bought your digital zine bundle and I’m so excited to get started.
