On Thursday I went to pick up the keys for my new office space for Garbie and I decided to wear my favorite pieces of clothing. For me, in this moment in time (lol), this means a pink jacket that I dyed myself, a patchwork tee that racked up almost 1 million views on TikTok, and a pair of egg pants that I made as apart of my first (sort of) brand deal.
I love making clothes for myself that speak to my own personality. In this outfit, I feel exactly like myself. Sewing and altering and dyeing have led to this deep sense of power. Power in changing clothes to better suit my sense of play and creativity. It is so weird to me that I now have so many clothes that I have made or altered that it is now the norm to be wearing something that I have worked on. My hope for Garbie is to provide inspiration and instruction so that you can create clothing that makes your brain light on fire in the same way. That you feel the same sense of contentment in your body and in the clothes that you choose to wear.
I am very happy to say that Garbie has a new office space here in Portland. There are two offices, one for sewing and videos and one for order fulfillment. They are in the nicest art building with a gallery and other creative businesses. The vibes are spectacular.
I honestly cannot thank you all enough for reading and buying and watching me sew online. I am so excited to grow over the coming months and this space is the perfect place to facilitate that.
More to come! xx Tanner
Congratulations! I am a new but huge fan and cannot wait to see what this next exciting step holds for you!
Awesome! Question: Why do you think that we don’t have machines to 3d print clothes yet? Seems like most clothes are made from patterns by a machine, so I can’t understand why I can’t get my own body’s size pattern, pick a design, and click sew on my outfit printer. Seems like sewing at home is still so mysterious and complicated and requiring years of study... when it should be way more automated. Thoughts? Maybe a future post on this?
And thanks for sharing your awesome work and teaching us all! Love your TikTok!
